World Cup

Below conversation had while driving in the car:

My husband: "Hmm...I wonder who won World Cup."

Me: "Oh, was that today?" (so asks the apathetic American)

Yes, I fall into that big piece of the pie graph of those rat-bastard Americans that seemingly can't be bothered with World Cup. Or maybe I am in the less sizable, yet still ample, part of the pie chart of those Americans that know World Cup is going on and stay on top of it just enough to know which teams made it to the finals. Yes, I believe that is the slice of the pie I fell into. But to be honest I am "interested" in World Cup--a little bit. As interested as aTexas-born and raised on American football girl can be. Yes--I am pleased Italy won. I wanted Italy to win. I am just glad I didn't have to bore myself to tears watching the whole thing unravel just to see it happen. No..no--it isn't that boring and I know it has it's moments. So, yay Italy! I will have to call my friend Nina in NYC and congratulate her on her homeland's victory. I was in Rome when they won a huge championship Soccer game back in 2001. It was unreal. The spontaneous celebrations--the parades. It was so much fun. I can only imagine what this win is doing to the country--I would love to be there right now.

I actually attended a World Cup game in Dallas--way back when. It was quite fun. Better to be there in person, me thinks, than to watch on TV. Yet, it has the possibility of growing on me. Baby steps.
